Symbols Can't Save 6/18/23

The people of Judah were trusting in the presence of the temple to save them in spite of their immorality and idolatry as they thought they could live as they chose even as they went through the motions of worship. To illustrate the futility of that hope, he reminds them of what the Lord had done to Shiloh to show that it's not the building that is the foundation of our faith, but the Occupant of the building—the Lord Himself.
